Advanced uses:
ā¢ Third Conditional: "If I had known, I would have come." (Hypothetical past).
ā¢ Inversion: "Hardly had I arrived when..." (Formal/Literary for "As soon as I arrived...").
ā¢ Unfulfilled Hope: "I had hoped to see him" (but I didn't).
ā¢ Narrative Flashbacks: Moving from simple past to an earlier time.
