1. Definition & Core Meaning

Tim has a brand new bike for his birthday. It is shiny green with a black seat. He really wants to ride it, but he doesn't know how yet. He feels a little worried. "Don't worry, I will help you learn," says his dad kindly. Tim puts on his helmet and gets on the bike seat. He holds the handlebars tightly because he is scared of falling.

Dad holds the back of the bike to keep it steady. "Push the pedals, Tim!" says Dad encouragingly. Tim moves his feet and pushes the pedals down. The bike starts to move forward. Dad runs behind him and then lets go. Tim is riding all by himself! He rides down the street with a big smile. "Look at me, Dad!" he shouts happily. He is very proud of himself.
